www.bruderhof.com offers something called the “daily dig.”  If you subscribe, you will receive a daily thought that links to a longer devotional piece.  I’ve been impressed by the range of writers and provocative pieces……Roaring Lambs by Robert Briner is not a new book, but it’s a concise case for the church being a prophetic, proactive voice in contemporary culture, especially the arts….for pure fiction, I’d recommend Richard Russo  (T. Elisara)

I have recently enjoyed "The Message" on CD.  I have also been enjoying short reads in Sojourners magazine and Organic Style. (J. Stoneberg)

FROM STUDENTS (posted Fall 2005)

I took an awesome class this semester called Faith and Social Issues and I got to read some pretty rad books!  I urge you guys to pick up any of the following:  Affluenza:  The All Consuming EpidemicThe Working PoorPrivilege Power and Difference by Alan Johnson; The Violence of Love by Oscar Romero; Reaching Out by Henri Nouwen; We drink from our own Wells by Gutierrez; Loaves and Fishes by Dorothy Day..The list could continue forever!!!   (S. Martel)

I would really recommend that everyone reads Affluenza, especially around the Christmas holiday and if you are looking for a quiet  time book, Devotional Classics has really been an inspiration.  With the new movie coming out, I also would recommend that everyone goes back to their
happy place from your childhood and reread the Narnia series! (B. Albright)

If anyone is ever in the Maine or I believe Massachusetts area you really  need to look up O'Naturals.  It is an organic "fast food" restaurant and  they are amazing!  I wish more states would catch on.  As for books,  All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy; The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver (actually, anything by her will do); The Woman Warrior by Maxine Hong Kingston;  Crash (themes of race--not just the same ol' thing); Songcatcher (gorgeous Appalachian mountain music) and for music  Over the Rhine (my new favorite group)

And one more thing - if anyone is looking for a great jobsearch website, go to www.idealist.org  They post only non-profits, and you can have them send you e-mail updates with openings in your interests.  It's how I found my current job, and I'm a big fan.  (J. Babcock)

FROM STUDENTS (posted Spring 2005)

I highly recommend reading Lament for a Son by  Nicholas Wolterstorff. (K. Devore)

The Spirit of the Disciplines by Dallas Willard;  The Whale and the Reactor: A Search for Limits in an Age of High Technology by Landon Winner;  For the Common Good: Redirecting the Economy Toward Community, the Environment, and a Sustainable Future by Herman Daly and John Cobb (Ashley)

I recommend the Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning and everything by C.S. Lewis.  Also Beyond Charity by John Perkins.   Music:  my cd player holds Sean McDonald at the moment, coming in a close 2nd is Snow Patrol or Kean.   I highly recommend Mission Year to everyone...www.missionyear.org  (C. Stephens)

Great Book (originally recommended by Chris E.) is Mountains Beyond Mountains.  I presented and wrote a paper about Dr. Paul Farmer's research projects, and have an opportunity to attend one of his classes that he teaches at Harvard Med School.  It's both encouraging and exciting, and his medical philosophy is profound.  Also, many of his projects are ongoing here in the Boston area and are frequently mentioned in the Boston Globe.  It's exciting to see his impact on the lives of so many.  (A. Boyd)

A New Kind Of Christian by Brian McLaren-- a thought provoking book.
 (A. Goodfellow)

Read the book that someone suggested, i think it was Tricia?  Mountains Beyond Mountains.  It’s a great book to read and very inspiring.  It really shows how one person can really make a difference.  Music recommendations... Country!  its all good!  (B. Kanche)

Peanut Butter and Banana sandwhiches (a staple of my life and something that I think would improve anyone's life if they consumed more of them!)  Books:  Prodigal Summer & The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver; My Story as Told by Water by David James Duncan;  No Logo by Naomi Klein; Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich; Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott;  Canadian artists to try: Bruce Cockburn, Sam Roberts, Chantal Kreviazuk, Sarah McLachlan  (L. Collins)

The Future of Life by E.O. Wilson.  It's  an "impassioned call for quick and decisive action to save the Earth's rich biological heritage."  Really good.   (G. Jacobson)

No new books or articles to recommend, but I do recommend that people listen to more Rage Against the Machine, and as always, Nirvana. (L. Tursick)

Ah too many, most recent read The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton-- an amazing writer.  (M. Emo)
